10 Movie Fan Theories The Creators Completely Rejected

3. Harry Potter

Jurassic World
Warner Bros.

The Theory: In terms of fan theories, Harry Potter is right up there with Star Wars, Game Of Thrones and the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the list of properties that generate the most interest.

The theories have been rolling in long after the final book (and movie) came out, and among all the "Draco is a werewolf", "it was all a dream" and "Ron is a time-traveling Dumbledore" conspiracists, there are a select few who believe that Dumbledore created a Horcrux - and that Horcrux was Fawkes the phoenix.

A Horcrux is a dark magical object that contains a piece of a person's soul, and the way to create a Horcrux is to kill someone. The theory states that Dumbledore accidentally killed his sister Ariana while fighting with Gellert Grindelwald and Aberforth Dumbledore, which gave him the ability to imbue Fawkes with a part of his soul.

This theory began life on MoviePilot, who proposed that the Horcrux was the Elder Wand, before YouTube channel SuperCarlinBrothers took it one step further, claiming the Horcrux was, in fact, Fawkes.

It was hard to believe that Dumbledore would dabble in magic this dark, but nonetheless, the threads all seemed to pull together.

The Rejection: This theory was rejected by J.K. Rowling herself, who didn't respond too kindly to the idea when asked by a fan on Twitter...

She not only debunked the theory, but questioned anybody who believed it. Her stance on this one is very, very clear.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
