10 Movie Fight Scenes That Set The Bar For Slo-Mo
3. No Man's Land - Wonder Woman (2017)
The Scene
No Man's Land. Diana (Gal Gadot) is in the thick of the first World War in a trench.
How It Sets The Bar
Few scenes in recent cinema history have equipped their characters to fulfil their heroic potential quite like Diana's ascention here. Slow Motion is used here to guide us through the Wonder Woman's visual transformation into the Amazonian she has always been - gradual shots of her lasso and shield being buzz worthy enough.
She struts with a focus and determination that is enhanced by the frame rate being turned up. Explosions cloud her as the dust languidly scatters the sky. A solitary bullet - hurtling at momentous speed - is again slowed down as it deflects off of Diana's forearm, provoking her allies to rally behind her as she ricochets the bullets away from harm.
Another diverse use of the device, this time being used to endorse a hero's realisation of her leadership and bravery. It's a character defining moment for Diana but may also being a device defining moment for Slo-mo, proving it can be equally effective in displaying resilience.
