How It Sets The Bar

Zack Snyder's back and this time he's taking us onto the Spartan battlefield. It begins with a rush from the Persian offense with the two rivalling fleets squeezing up against each other in a vicious maul - stabs and gauges, aplenty.

Then the Spartans kick into gear, stamping forward, each step accompanied by thrusts and lacerations - blood painting their shields and enemies torsos. The Spartans are taking no prisoners and showing 'no mercy!' but that's when things get kicked up a notch.

With a clear path made, Leonidis goes on a slo-motion killing spree for the ages. His inaugural deflection of one grunt, followed up by the halting of another with his dreaded spear. Snyder, again, uses the tool we're crediting to burst through the barbaric killing after each man is stopped by Leonidas' blow.

Never has a moment captured the combination killing spree with more blissful beauty than that of this one-man slaughtering. Snyder not only sets the bar in that respect but credit him for his side profiled shot, making us feel as though we were back in an arcade 'finishing' our foes on Mortal Kombat.
