10 Movie Franchises Hollywood Will Never Let Die
1. Marvel Cinematic Universe
Comfortably the highest-grossing franchise in history with over $13.5bn earned across seventeen features, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is without question the biggest game in town. And its only going to get bigger; now upping their release schedule to three movies a year, this year's Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Infinity War will add at least another $2.5bn to the coffers in 2018.
Spearheaded by Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios' groundbreaking shared universe concept has worked to a tee. While many of their movies can feel slightly repetitive and over-familiar as a result of the 'in-house' style, they always pull in huge numbers at the box office.
Feige has stated that he has the next decade of the MCU planned out already, and there's no doubt that Marvel's batch of superheroes will be fixtures on the big screen far beyond that. Especially when you take Disney's recent acquisition of Fox into consideration.
Once the deal officially goes through Disney will own the movie rights to the entire X-Men universe along with the Fantastic Four, two properties that come with almost unlimited potential were they to be folded into the ever-expanding MCU, with fans salivating at the mere prospect.
Disney was never going to give up on the MCU given the vast array of characters they already had at their disposal and the continued success of their established roster of Avengers, but throw the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the mix and Marvel will definitively corner the market on the superhero blockbuster for the foreseeable future.
