Another iconic horror franchise with lasting appeal, this year sees the eleventh entry in the Halloween series hit theaters, this time backed by genre super-producer Jason Blum and the unlikely creative team of David Gordon Green and Danny McBride.

While the quality of the movies has veered wildly from the classic to the catastrophic over the years, Halloween remains one of the most instantly-recognizable brands in the realm of big screen horror and a franchise that the studio is unwilling to give up on, with Gordon Green's upcoming slasher marking the second reboot in a decade.

Despite a noticeable drop in quality, the presence of a marketable central character and established brand and a dirt-cheap method of producing new content have seen the Halloween series endure for an impressive 40 years, and it will no doubt continue for a lot longer.
