10 Movie Franchises Hollywood Will Never Let Die
6. Superman
If you include Columbia's old black-and-white serials and George Reeve's 1951 effort, then last year's Justice League marked Superman's eleventh big-screen appearance.
As one of the most iconic figures in popular culture, a character that can be constantly reinvented to cater to modern audiences and one of Warner Bros.' biggest properties, The Big Blue Boy Scout will remain a fixture at the multiplex for decades to come no matter which actor dons the famous costume.
Audiences believed a man could fly in 1978 thanks to Richard Donner and Christopher Reeve, but less then a decade later the embarrassing Superman IV had rendered the Man of Steel virtually redundant. After laying dormant for almost twenty years, Superman Returns brought the character back to cinema with mixed results, and the Last Son of Krypton now finds himself as part of DC's extended universe of comic book movies.
Even though the Henry Cavill-shaped iteration of the character doesn't have another standalone movie in the immediate future, Supes was the narrative hook of Justice League and as one of DC's 'Big Two', will remain a focal point of the franchise going forward.
It may have taken until the late 70's to successfully crack the formula for Superman on the big screen, but 40 years later and the character still remains a prominent figure in the cinematic landscape, one that will be rebooted for at least the next 40 and beyond.
