The Franchise: The Michael Bay-produced live-action Turtles franchise faced a ton of fan backlash prior to release, and understandably so, but 2014's reboot still grossed an impressive $493.3 million against a $125 million budget even with mixed-negative reviews.

How It Died: This past summer's sequel, Out of the Shadows, was actually a fair improvement over the first film, hewing closer to the source material and introducing a number of fanboy-friendly characters (such as Bebop and Rocksteady).

Audiences didn't spring for it, though, and it couldn't even double its $135 million budget, grossing less than half of the first film. Producer Andrew Form recently confirmed that no sequel plans were in place, and so it seems that this iteration of Turtles is dead...until Paramount inevitably reboots it yet again in another 5-10 years.
