10 Movie Franchises That Died In 2016
6. Gods Of Egypt
The Franchise: Summit Entertainment were so committed to this year's fantasy epic Gods of Egypt building a franchise that they sunk $140 million into getting it made. With its elaborate CGI-driven set-pieces and giant battling robot Gods, they were clearly trying to tap into the superhero movie market.
How It Died: The movie made only $10 million more than its budget and was lambasted by critics for its poor visual effects, bad acting, howlingly awful script and wealth of unintentional comedy.
Basically, everyone quickly forgot about any prospect of a sequel in any way, shape or form, and the movie itself pretty much dove immediately into the Netflix abyss. Atrocious.
