10 Movie Franchises That Died In 2016
7. Snow White & The Huntsman
The Franchise: The dark, gritty take on Snow White began with 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman, which scored just shy of $400 million at the box office despite mixed reviews. Whether the material needed it or not, a follow-up was happening.
How It Died: This year's prequel-sequel hybrid The Huntsman was not a movie many wanted or needed, and yet Universal pushed ahead regardless.
The result unsurprisingly failed to justify its own existence, only barely making its $115 million budget back and making most people wonder why they even bothered anyway.
Needless to say, we won't be seeing anymore of these movies, and one can hope that studios might learn a lesson or two from it about shoving franchises down audience's throats (they won't).
