The Franchise: It all began with the iconic 1999 horror hit The Blair Witch Project, which of course kick-started a risible sequel most people prefer to forget, Book of Shadows.

The series then laid dormant for over 15 years before Lionsgate introduced a surprise sequel, simply titled Blair Witch, over the summer (originally called The Woods).

How It Died: Blair Witch is one of the few movies on this list that absolutely cannot be called a box office bomb.

It actually made $44.3 million against a $5 million budget despite negative reviews, but considering that Lionsgate were clearly banking on a Saw or Paranormal Activity-sized hit far past the $100 million mark, this was certainly a huge financial disappointment to them.

Given that it didn't even meet 20% of the original movie's huge $248.6 million worldwide box office, Lionsgate are almost certainly putting this one back in the freezer.
