10 Movie Franchises That Died In 2022

6. Morbius

Oh Morbius, we hardly knew ye.

Sony evidently had high hopes for the Jared Leto-starring superhero flick, and with its modest $83 million budget, it seemed highly likely that Morbius would indeed prove at least decently successful at the box office, in turn kickstarting a new sub-franchise within Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

Yet critics summarily panned the film and audiences weren't much more enthusiastic, giving it a poor "C+" CinemaScore, resulting in it grossing a disappointing $167.5 million worldwide.

Though Morbius became something of a meme upon release, that failed to translate into box office gravy, and when Sony gave the film a re-release in 1,000 cinemas back in June, it suffered the unique indignity of bombing for the second time.

While it's not out of the question that we could see Morbius show up in another SSMU film, Morbius 2 is deader than dead, and given the outright audience rejection of the character, it wouldn't be surprising at all if the C-tier Marvel superhero is never seen again.
