10 Movie Franchises That Have Backed Themselves Into A Corner
8. Acting Carelessly Towards The Franchise Continuity - X-Men
Oh, the X-Men franchise: what a muddle. Though recent blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past attempted to right some of the wrongs that had been committed against Fox's mutant franchise over the past decade, the continuity issues inherent to this on-going series stand as a major elephant in the room. At least, they would stand as an elephant in the room if people were choosing to ignore them, but they're not - fans are peeved by the confusing nature of the X-Men narrative. Fox made a huge mistake when they began to act carelessly with the time frame, of course, because it's now near-on impossible to work out how everything in this incredibly messy series fits together (warning: attempting to do so will grant headaches). The problem with this - in terms of the franchise being backed into a corner - is that new installments in the series have to keep attempting to realign the mistakes made by their predecessors. X-Men: Days of Future Past had a good go at sorting out the timeline with its time travel antics, but - what do you know? - it also created a bunch of new plot holes in the process. Plot holes which will have to be addressed and subsequently resolved in upcoming sequel X-Men: Apocalypse. And so the wheel keeps on turning...
