10 Movie Franchises That Need To Ditch ONE Thing
3. The Billy Loomis Visions - Scream
The "Requel Era" of the Scream franchise may be very far from perfect, but it's at least succeeded in doing what the Saw franchise hasn't - introducing fans to a likeable and memorable quartet of new heroes who can carry the series forward.
Yet as great as the Core Four of Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Chad (Mason Gooding), and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) are, there's one recurring element from the last two films that just needs to go, like, now.
We're talking about Sam's goofy visions of her late father, Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich). Throughout the last two movies, Sam has encountered periodic visions of her father - achieved with a garishly digitally de-aged Skeet Ulrich - as he attempts to goad her into giving in to her most brutal tendencies.
Though the idea behind Sam's past is interesting enough, externalising it visually is a corny choice that's sure to remind fans of the terrible visions of Sidney's (Neve Campbell) mother Maureen in Scream 3. Didn't we establish how terrible this was back then? Apparently not.
It seems unlikely the idea will be ditched for the inevitable seventh movie, but here's to hoping.
