10 Movie Franchises That Need To Return To Their Roots

One of the most common criticisms of Zack Snyder's Superman movies, Man Of Steel and Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice, was his insistence on striving for the serious tone which made Christopher Nolan's Batman movies so successful. Many fans argued that this ran counter to the tone of Superman, rendering his character one dimensional and boring.

While some fans made the counter-argument that there's enough Superman comic book source material which fits Snyder's style, there was little denying that the character was far from fun to be around, coming across rather as a po-faced moper in stark contrast to the incarnation given by Christopher Reeves in the Superman movies of the 1980s. Put simply, Snyder's idea of Superman was all angst and no levity, and no amount of headache inducing action could change that.

While no further Superman films are currently on the horizon, it's hoped that when it inevitably re-emerges the writers will understand how important it is to develop Superman's Clark Kent alter ego. It is Kent's faux awkwardness and attempts to be "normal" which counterbalances his otherwise flawless attributes and creating a more complex and relatable character, instead of a one-dimensional Gary Stu.
