10 Movie Franchises That Ruined Iconic Characters Twice

8. Doctor Doom - Fantastic Four

The First Time

Though Doctor Doom technically appeared in the 1994 Roger Corman-produced - and officially unreleased - Fantastic Four film, the supervillain's first official cinematic balls-up came in 2005, with Fox's big-budget adaptation of the legendary comic.

While Doom's goofy appearance suited the silly tone of the film just fine, Nip/Tuck star Julian McMahon gave a totally flat, boring performance as Victor Von Doom, never doing more than presenting him as a generic, megalomaniacal billionaire baddie.

Compared to what came next, though, his performance really wasn't that bad.

The Second Time

Josh Trank's 2015 reboot is one of the most troubled blockbuster productions of recent years, perhaps evidenced no better than by the film's atrocious conception of Doctor Doom.

Toby Kebbell originally signed on to play a reinvented version of the character called Victor Domashev, a hacker who used the online moniker Doom.

Following the negative online fan response, however, this was changed through re-shoots and editing to restore his traditional character name.

Kebbell did the best he could as Von Doom, but actually only played his villainous alter ego for three small moments, while the rest were performed by another actor in re-shoots.

Needless to say, from Doctor Doom's bizarre, comic-unfaithful appearance - better resembling a crash test dummy, to be honest - to his utter lack of screen presence and boring beam-in-the-sky showdown with the superheroes, this is one of the most embarrassing supervillain screen adaptations in recent memory.
