10 Movie Franchises That Screwed Up Their Final Part
1. Robocop 3
What happens when you take a majestic franchise with a good two films already behind it and try and tinker it to accommodate a younger audience? The answer: A shambles of a movie and lots (and LOTS) of disgruntled movie-goers.
Before this film even hit movie theatres, it was doomed to fail with the decision to downscale the more violent aspects of the movie backfiring, prompting much anger within its core fan base who had already sat through, and loved, two cracking films. That, coupled with their failure to get Robocop actor himself Peter Weller on board, meant it was always going to be a flop and time has proven that to be correct.
Because it really did flop, with many hardcore supporters refusing to acknowledge its existence to this day, despite over 20 years passing since it was inflicted on the world. It’s so poor that it even made the 2014 version, starring the excellent but wasted-in-this-shambles Joel Kinnaman, look like glorious cinema. And that movie was woeful as well.
When Disney acquired 21st Century Fox many feared for films like Deadpool and Logan, where scenes are a tad too adult for its younger fans. Thankfully, movies like that should still go ahead because one look at Robocop 3 should be enough to deter them from making the same mistake - if they can even stomach to give it one look, that is.
