10 Movie Franchises That Were Rebooted Multiple Times

Why Halloween Just Killed Up At The Box OfficeThumb
Warner Bros.

Richard Donner's Superman was a groundbreaking spectacle that introduced the Man of Steel to cinemagoers and, in many ways, paved the way for the modern day superhero movie. In doing so, it created a franchise that delivered three sequels - the last of which has gone down in history as one of the worst films of all time. Needless to say, Superman IV was the franchise's kryptonite and put Clark Kent on the shelf indefinitely.

After multiple failed attempts to reboot the franchise, Warner Bros. finally released Superman Returns in 2006, an homage sequel to the first two films of Donner's saga. Although both it and actor Brandon Routh received praise from critics, it underperformed at the box office and, as a result, the two planned sequels were scrapped.

After a series of further potential films were scrapped, Warner officially rebooted the franchise with Man of Steel. Released in 2013, it was a box-office success and ended up launching the DCEU. Henry Cavill would then reprise the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League - neither of which went down well with audiences.

Following that, Cavill was reportedly done with the DCEU, once again leaving the future of the Superman franchise up up and away in the air.
