10 Movie Franchises That Were Rebooted Multiple Times

Why Halloween Just Killed Up At The Box OfficeThumb
Universal

Halloween is undoubtedly a horror classic. Released in 1978, the John Carpenter flick was the little slasher that could as it received critical acclaim and brought in an incredible $70 million at the box office. The only problem with its success was that it spawned an entire franchise of lacklustre sequels (two of which were failed attempts at a reboot), none of which even came close to living up to its impossibly high standard.

Seven films later and the franchise was successfully rebooted by Rob Zombie who wrote, directed and produced the 2007 remake. Though it didn't break the chain of poorly-received follow-ups, it was significantly better than the previous sequels and was successful enough to warrant a sequel of its own which (surprise, surprise) went down even less favourably with critics.

Nine years later, the franchise was rebooted again, as Jamie Lee Curtis returned in a direct sequel to the original 1978 film - one that retconned all of the other follow-ups. It was a massive success, breathing new life into the four-decade old franchise as it received acclaim from both fans and critics and also became the most financially successful Halloween film yet.

One of the few times that a second reboot successfully managed to reinvigorate a tired old franchise, it's really no surprise that a sequel is in the works. Let's hope this one can make history and actually produce a decent follow-up.
