10 Movie Franchises That Were Rebooted Multiple Times

Why Halloween Just Killed Up At The Box OfficeThumb
Sony Pictures Releasing

Spider-Man may be one of Marvel's most iconic superheroes, but he's had quite the start-and-stop relationship with the big screen.

Following a series of TV appearances, the webslinger made his film debut in 2000 when Sony Pictures produced Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. Starring Tobey Maguire, the film was both a critical and commercial hit and went on to spawn two sequels - the latter of which ended up grossing $890 million in spite of mixed reviews.

Despite the success, Sony decided to reboot the franchise, hiring Marc Webb to direct and Andrew Garfield to star in the titular role. While 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man received positive reviews and performed well at the box office, its sequel disappointed in both departments and, once again, Spidey found himself having to start over.

The silver lining in the next reboot was that Sony worked out a deal with Disney that would allow the character to finally make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With that, new Spider-Man Tom Holland debuted in Captain America: Civil War, before headlining his own film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, in 2017.

With sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home set to arrive this summer, it's looking like Spidey is safe in his new home of the MCU and we can all rest knowing that the franchise likely won't be rebooted for a long time to come.
