10 Movie Franchises We Never Want To See Rebooted Again
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remains a classic of the horror genre, but it seems doubtful that Tobe Hooper spotted instant franchise potential that would see the series continue for over 40 years, despite returning for the first sequel that arrived 12 years after the iconic original.
After that we got another two follow-ups that are more notable for featuring fresh-faced Viggo Mortensen, Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey more than anything else, before the first movie was eventually remade in 2003. And this is where things start to get confusing.
The remake spawned a prequel, but in 2013 Texas Chainsaw 3D arrived and ignored everything else that had happened in the franchise since the first movie and acted as a sequel to the 1974 original, before Leatherface got his own prequel in 2017 that took place before that and gave the title character an origin story.
After years of sequels, prequels, remakes, reboots and origin stories marked by diminishing box office returns, you'd think that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre had long passed the point of relevance. However, this is Hollywood we're talking about and another reboot is already in the works with Fede Alvarez set to produce.
