10 Movie Happy Endings That Ignored One Devastating Thing
6. She's A Criminal - Big
The Happy Ending
Having learned the valuable tale that you shouldn't always get what you want (and also that you shouldn't wish your life away because older boys will try and ruin your inventive new toy pitches), Josh Baskin realises he wants to not be Big any more and turns to Zoltar to turn him back into a child.
It works and after months of his family thinking he was kidnapped, he goes home to be reunited with them. Presumably, they've got lots of questions, but at least he's home.
But Wait...
Aside from Josh getting the taste of adulthood that would make the rest of his childhood difficult, the more difficult revelation will come for Elizabeth Perkins' Susan who has just watched her boyfriend turn into a 12-year-old.
The boyfriend she was very much sexually active with.
Now, wizards and magic are involved, so she doesn't TECHNICALLY have sex with a child (at least not in body), but responsisilbity and maturity are part of the whole age of consent thing. So, she's going to have to live with the fact that she would be classed as a criminal for the rest of her life. Even if it doesn't come out in public, knowing that she had sex with a pre-teen has got to leave a mental mark.
