7. Ash Ketchum - Pokémon: The Movie 2000
Ash left home at the age of ten with the aim of becoming a Pokémon Master and 23 years later, he's still plugging away at it. In between catching Pokémon, Ash has frequently been called upon to save the world and defeat some serious villains and obstacles including, on several occasions, death.
In Pokémon: The Movie 2000, it's up to Ash to retrieve a treasure from the top of a mountain so that the three legendary birds (Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno) will stop their apocalyptic battling. En route to the mountain, he's attacked by the three birds who destroy his transportation and leave him with no way to get there. Game over.
Until... an airboat miraculously appears and gives Ash a lift up the mountain. The pilots of the airboat? Team Rocket. The trio of spineless villains who are embarrassingly defeated in nearly every episode of the show, even by Ash on his second ever day as a Pokémon Trainer. Yet, it's those losers who bail out our hero and lead to the day being saved. Very Onyx-pected.
