10 Movie Heroes Who Might As Well Have Stayed At Home

7. Raoul Silva Killed M Anyway - Skyfall

James Bond returned from his self-inflicted exile when he learned that MI6 had been attacked by an unknown hacker. This hacker (Raoul Silva) also had the identities of all of MI6's active field agents and was slowly releasing them to the world. After tracking Silva down, Bond learned that he wanted revenge for M abandoning him when he himself was captured while working for MI6.

Why Bond shouldn't have bothered: Was M's life really worth more than the dozens of active field agents? All that Bond did was slightly delay the inevitable since M died anyway after succumbing to her wounds brought on by the epic Home Alone style showdown between Bond and Silva. Sure, Bond managed to track down Silva but, according to him, that was part of the plan anyway. Throughout the film Bond was playing catch up to Silva's masterplan when he could have stayed on the beach until he was old and grey. Or at least until the scorpion drinking games killed him.

The consequences: Dozens of agent deaths, putting his childhood friend at risk and the destruction of a nice Scottish castle. Oh, and we never would have had the uncomfortable moment where Bond slept with a sex slave.
