3. Frank Bullitt - Bullitt
An originator of the maverick archetype. Most known for the car chase between Bullitt's Mustang Fastback and a Dodge Charger across the San Francisco streets which end up with Frank leading the Charger into an explosive tank.
Compared to the other entries on the list, Bullitt doesn't seem much for words, but his cool as ice presence and his mannerisms speak volumes, his methods obviously unorthodox; hiding a corpse away from the public eye being a major one.
Frank Bullitt may not be the wittiest, loudest or craziest maverick, but he's an original, enough to influence other characters down the line.
