10 Movie Mistakes Staring You In The Face
7. Disappearing Chess Pieces - Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
Neither Ace Ventura: Pet Detective nor its follow-up, When Nature Calls, are the type of movie where a watertight story and lack of any plot holes are at the top of the priority list. It's about laughing at Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey, playing a man who talks out of his own backside.
However that being said, there was one very basic continuity error spotted throughout the sequel that was absolutely impossible to ignore. Namely, during a conversation between Ace and Vincent Cadby, an entire board's worth of chess pieces goes missing. In one frame they are there, but after a couple of camera cuts, the board is completely empty.
It's not even like it was just in the background, it was in between the two characters and couldn't be missed. Cadby was even playing chess as Ace entered the room, and the pet detective himself made a point of picking up one of the pieces to accentuate his point.
