8. North By Northwest - Psychic Child

A classic shot from a classic movie, and a classic goof that no doubt would have got the offending child in trouble with Alfred Hitchcock if the auteur had discovered it - which presumably he did.

Single-handedly spoiling a hugely important scene in the thriller, a young extra manages to pre-empt the firing of a gun, sticking his fingers in his ears well before the shots are fired in clear sight of the camera.

Quite how that was missed we'll never know - unless it was deemed charming - which is possible, considering how much more jarring it is to realise that Eva Marie Saint delivers the same lines twice to extend the length of the scene. In future, maybe don't give the extras a heads-up about what to expect, if they're likely to spoil everything to preserve their delicate little ears.

Needless to say, noone has ever seen this child since. (Disclaimer: they probably have.)
