10 Movie Moments That Outraged Fanboys In 2013

4. Khan - Star Trek Into Darkness

When it came to Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of Khan in the latest Star Trek movie, there wasn't anything specific that seemed to get the fanboys all riled up: it was the way in which the whole thing was handled in general. That's to say, there's no denying the fact that Cumberbatch put in a fine performance and made for a good Khan - it was just that the character was so muddled and inconsistently written that it was impossible for fans to get to grips with him. It was already annoying enough that the movie decided to call him "John Harrison" for a while, and when Into Darkness eventually got around to explaining this enigmatic man's motivations, they didn't really make sense. What was Khan trying to achieve and why was he going about it in such a bizarre, convoluted fashion? Ultimately, the "is he/is not Khan?" stuff felt exhausting, and the movie was lost as a result. Fanboys were right to complain in this instance, apparently.
