10 Movie Moments That Pissed Fanboys Off The Most In 2015
10. Blofeld's Awful Motives - Spectre
The Moment: Bond (Daniel Craig) and Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux) arrive at Blofeld's (Christoph Waltz) compound, where he reveals the reason behind his hatred and torment of 007: daddy issues. When Bond's parents died, Blofeld's father took him in as a foster parent, and a young Blofeld believed that his dad favoured James over himself, so Blofeld killed his father and faked his own death, allowing him to "kill" his original Franz Oberhauser identity and re-emerge as the Blofeld persona. Why The Fanboys Hate It: Because even for the standards of the Bond franchise, it's both lazy and ridiculous. When Waltz was announced to play a role that most had already guessed would ultimately be Blofeld, Bond fans the world over were thrilled, but after months of secrecy for him to ultimately have incredibly tired, childish motives makes his character out to be something of a pathetic joke. In addition, the whole faking his death and resurfacing under a new name is both cliched and wildly convoluted: in an age where Bond films are aiming to be more "realistic", this just stank of the sort of flimsy plotting you'd expect from the Roger Moore era. Though the character isn't beyond redeeming as he smartly wasn't killed off at the end of Spectre, the hardcore Bond fans were righteously p***ed off that the latest iteration of the series' most legendary villain got such an underwhelming, even lame treatment. Waltz deserved better, and so did we as an audience.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
