10 Movie Moments That Terrified You As A Kid (But Are Laughable Now)

10. Gmork - The NeverEnding Story

The NeverEnding Story is a classic cinematic adventure. It sits high and mighty among the ranks of childhood films as basically a rite of passage in any kid's development. It's a little trippy and there are some really heavy themes peppered throughout its run time, but it nevertheless prevails overall as a solid family movie. Amidst all of the innocent fun, there are a few scenes that pushed boundaries for a kid's film. One such scene featured the flesh and blood monster who served the Nothing. That's right. You remember Gmork. When you were a kid, that thing was straight from the pits of hell. The green glowing eyes and fangs that look like they could crush your skeleton into dust? Not to mention the fact that he can speak and that he uses this ability to straight up inform Atreyu that he wanted to ingest him. As a kid, that's terrifying. When you watch this scene as an adult, you can't help but laugh at this flimsy monster that resembles a poorly constructed Halloween costume. From the way that this muppet moves, to the realisation that you could probably just kick it and it would fall over, this monster doesn't exactly inspire the nightmares it once did. Good day, Gmork.
