10 Movie Moments That Terrified You As A Kid (But Are Laughable Now)
9. Boy - Little Monsters
Little Monsters is one of those movies that makes you wonder when exactly it was that kid's movies stopped getting away with being so damn dark. It's basically a movie that explains to kids that not only are there absolutely monsters under their beds, but that these monsters are actually all former children who have been kidnapped and turned into monsters. That is beyond the realm of anything even remotely resembling OK. This brings us to the villain in this flick: Boy, as he is referred to, is presented as both a creepy-to-the-core preppy guy who looks like he hangs at yacht clubs and tries to score old ladies' life insurance payoffs, as well as a hideous monster with something of a speech impediment. As a kid, that was traumatising. Now? That's just hilarious. As a kid, the definition of complete terror was the moment when Boy ripped off his 'human' face to reveal ground hamburger meat with teeth; watching it now, you have to laugh out loud. The monster face is actually pretty adorable. The nightmare effect has most definitely worn off.
