As Chris Washing just about managed to get out of the dangerous Armitage home in one piece, things looked to have taken one last horrifying turn for the worst as what appeared to be a police car pulled up to the visual of him hovering over his bleeding-out girlfriend.

Thankfully, though, instead of Chris being framed for murder and a set of racist cops being quick to assume he was guilty, his pal Rod is revealed to be driving the car and the pair then drive away from the madness.

But originally, that aforementioned nightmare would've actually come true.

This ending, which saw Chris being arrested for the murder of the Armitage family before not providing Rod with any real information as to what actually happened in the house during a prison visit, was even tested in front of audiences at one point. However, as producer Sean McKittrick explained to Vulture, "the audience was absolutely loving it, and then it was like we punched everybody in the gut."

And while that much bleaker "sad truth" alternate conclusion is still available to watch, one that Daniel Kaluuya actually "loves", the decision was eventually made by Jordan Peele and the gang to go for a happier closing stretch where Chris wins in the end.
