10 Movie Moments Which Aren’t What They Seem
9. Jurassic Park - A Sweet Mound Of Triceratops Poop
As a child, your writer was pretty much convince that Steven Spielberg had actually found a way to create genuine Dino crap and planted it right in the middle of a scene in his groundbreaking Jurassic Park flick in 1993.
That obviously wasn't the case, but it sure as hell looked the part. So, it must have been a mountain of some form of animal dung piled up high in order to produce the desired Triceratops dropping effect, right?
Not even close.
The dino poop we see on screen is actually a combination of mud, clay and straw. That definitely explains why Laura Dern didn't throw up on the spot when she stuck her hand into it.
But, how did Spielberg get those pesky flies to stick around the make believe number two?
Instead of using CGI to add flies in post production, the fake crap was drizzled in honey (with some papaya thrown in for good measure) to attract a real swarm to the heap.
It no doubt smelt a whole lot better than prehistoric sh*t, but it still looked every bit a steaming pile of Jurassic turd.
