There's a new icon of horror and you probably don't even know his name. Yet, despite that, you would have seen him more than once in the past decade or so. Not since the great 'Man of a Thousand Faces' Lon Chaney have we seen an actor take to playing movie monsters so effortlessly and with so much vigour. His name, Javier Botet.

Born in 1977, Javier Botet is a Spanish actor with an ever increasing filmography in the horror movie world. Despite being diagnosed with Marfan syndrome at a young age, Botet has utilised his tall frame and hypermobility to play a number of unforgettable roles that have frightened audiences around the world. Like a true performer, Botet has taken advantage of his physicality, turning what might be perceived as an impediment into a unique strength that few others can emulate.

What's resulted from this is an unlikely actor becoming a horror movie star, creeping and lurching his way around the screen all with the goal to make us scared. More often than not he's succeeded, but not because of his condition, but because he's a terrific performer. You've seen the movies he's in, you've seen the monsters he's played, and now you'll remember his name.

20th Century Fox

From director Johannes Roberts (47 Metres Down), came this Indian set supernatural horror movie that starred Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead) and Jeremy Sisto (Wrong Turn).

The movie follows Sarah Wayne Callies character Maria, who is struggling to overcome the loss of her son Oliver following an car accident in which he drowned. Stricken with grief, she attempts suicide unsuccessfully. Upon seeing her emotional turmoil, Piki the housekeeper suggests Maria visit an abandoned temple in her hometown, which will allow her to say goodbye to her deceased son for one last time. The rub is, she can only say it through an old door, and most certainly can't open it.

This is a horror movie though, and Maria opens the door (we wouldn't have a movie if she didn't), which results in Oliver's spirit returning to the mortal world. However, it's not all gravy for Maria, as Oliver's spirit appears to be malicious upon its return.

Not to mention, Myrtu, the gatekeeper of the underworld is hellbent on returning Oliver's escaped spirit back to the realm it belongs in. This is where Botet comes in, stalking and haunting Maria's visions, as it slinks around searching for Oliver's soul.
