10 Movie Names With Absolutely Arbitrary Subtitles

7. Dreamer: Inspired By A True Story

Dreamer Xlg Why does this bit of information even need to be pointed out in the title of a movie? It's based on a true story - we get it. Is the studio hoping for an Oscar nod or plan to use it as marketing tactic towards gullible audiences who just eat that stuff up? Having to point out a film is based on a true story is a pet peeve of mine for a number of reasons: usually because facts are always distorted for drama and action, but also because it appears shameless in the advertising department. The Avengers does not have a subtitle 'Based on a Comic Book," nor does Star Trek have 'Based on a Television Show' attached to its hip. So what did the filmmakers of Dreamer hope to achieve with this? From the single word alone, Dreamer, we do not get much information about the movie. It is vague and abstract. So instead of adding a subtitle such as 'The Story of Saving a Horse' (or something much better than that), we get a bizarrely-rendered mention that it's inspired by real events. You know, just in case, unlike every other movie in the world that may or may not be based on a true story, you need extra incentive to watch it.
