10 Movie Origin Stories We Almost Got

1.  Politics - Tomorrowland

Brad Bird's Tomorrowland is centered around the titular alternate dimension, which while designed as a utopian hideaway for the world's greatest minds to advance society unimpeded, has since fallen into disrepute.

It's briefly mentioned that Tomorrowland was the brainchild of an outfit called Plus Ultra, consisting of Gustave Eiffel, Jules Verne, Nikola Tesla, and Thomas Edison, though director Bird also commissioned an additional animated sequence which would further detail Tomorrowland's origins.

The gorgeous scene, which Bird eventually released on YouTube, was set to take place at the start of the movie when a young Frank Welker (George Clooney) visits the 1964 New York World's Fair and sets eyes upon Tomorrowland for the first time.

The animated short film would explain that Plus Ultra constructed Tomorrowland to be free of corporate giants attempting to exploit their inventions for mutual gain and warmongering countries using them to flex their geo-political power.

The plan was to unveil their creations to humankind 20 years after Tomorrowland's construction was completed.

When Bird realised that the short, though beautiful, killed the film's pacing, he decided to ditch it, despite being one of the most interesting aspects of the entire movie.

At least it was fully animated and completed so that fans can savour it forever more - and it makes for a pretty nifty short in its own right, too.
