10 Movie Origin Stories We Almost Got
5. Cyborg's Tragic Backstory Was The "Heart" Of The Movie - Justice League
Without question the most frustratingly under-developed character in the DC Extended Universe to date is Cyborg (Ray Fisher), who after making a piecemeal cameo in Batman v Superman, was supposed to get his full coming-out party in Justice League.
But as the movie was reworked by a panicking Warner Bros. during post-production, the overwhelming majority of Cyborg's backstory filmed by Zack Snyder was cut to ensure the film met its studio-mandated two-hour runtime.
This is especially troubling as Snyder called Cyborg's arc the "heart" of the movie, which isn't at all apparent in the Joss Whedon-assisted theatrical cut.
Scenes showcasing a pre-Cyborg Victor Stone playing football, suffering his car accident, and adjusting to his new cybernetic abilities were all left on the cutting room floor, as well as the death of his father Silas (Joe Morton) mid-way through the movie, and a haunting sequence in which Victor visits the graves of his family (including himself, who is presumed dead).
Fisher has made it clear he wasn't happy with either how Cyborg turned out in the movie or how he was treated on-set by both Joss Whedon and producers, and so fingers are firmly crossed that the upcoming Snyder Cut might finally restore the emotion that was missing from the original release.
