9. The Stewarts Are Ghosts - The Others
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt2NRnryi40 This film had the cruel misfortune of being released a few short years after The Sixth Sense; hence that film and its mind-boggling twist - that the protagonist was a ghost - was still lodged firmly in the public's consciousness. The Others revolves around the Stewart family, a woman (Nicole Kidman) and her two children, as they move into a mansion and begin to suspect that it's haunted. The twist? Yep, the house is haunted...but it's haunted by the Stewarts. The mother and her children have been dead for the entirety of the movie, and it turns out that the people they suspect to be ghosts are in fact regular living people just trying to get by. Though I do admire the ending in how it subverts the conventional haunted house movie, I was pretty suspicious from the trailer alone, and upon seeing it, my suspicions were soon confirmed. It's a great ride all the same, though.
