10 Movie Plot Twists That Punished Loyal Fans

9. David Dunn's Anti-Climactic Death (Glass)

The biggest problem with M. Night Shyamalan's movies is that audiences now expect there to be some sort of mind-blowing reveal, and looking at Glass, it seems as though this expectation has now infected the way the filmmaker approaches his work.

While there isn't a twist like the one in The Sixth Sense (something that changes the way you look at the entire movie) there are a couple of smaller curveballs throughout. Some are harmless, like the fact that the big epic battle atop the skyscraper doesn't actually take place (a fun little jab at superhero movies) but one that just doesn't sit right is the way that David Dunn is unceremoniously killed off.

Fans have yelled about a sequel to Unbreakable for the last two decades, cries that Shyamalan undoubtedly heard. And a big reason why we all wanted that sequel so badly was to see David in full-on "vigilante mode", roaming the streets at night, protecting the innocent, and stopping crimes.

And while we get a small taste of that in Glass, David is instead held captive for most of the runtime. Then, he's drowned in a puddle outside the facility, killed off in the most unsatisfying way imaginable - because hey, Shyamalan's gotta twist, right?

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
