10 Movie Plots Made Possible By Ridiculous Convenience
2. Return Of The Jedi: Yoda Waits For Luke To Die
Now, obviously this was a sad moment for us all, but the wound needs to be re-opened - Yoda's passing is an emotional scene but there's a certain level of ridiculousness about it all.
Luke leaves his friends having saved his compadre, Han Solo, and makes for the Dagobah system where he clearly hasn't been for some time (a year according to the official timeline). A whole 12 months away from his Jedi Master is really not acceptable when training had only gotten as far as exercising and lifting rocks with your mind...
When he arrives, Yoda is incredibly frail and doesn't appear to have too long left. However, conveniently the diminutive Jedi has exactly enough time to confirm Luke's fears that Darth Vader is indeed his father and that there is definitely another Skywalker kicking around the galaxy somewhere.
Cue the galaxy's biggest liar, Obi-Wan, to explain that Leia is Luke's sister just after Yoda has popped his clogs - everything about the scene seemed to be for the sake of tying up loose ends and creating new ones.
Clearly, when your time is up; it's not up if you have the force on your side to give you a few minutes longer to explain stuff.
