10 Movie References You Didn't Get As A Kid (But Do As An Adult)

8. Patrick Ewing's Performance Issues - Space Jam

Ratatouille Tiny Little
Warner Bros.

Is there a more iconic 90s film than Space Jam? Bugs Bunny (Billy West) and Michael Jordan teaming up with Bill Murray and the rest of the Looney Tunes to take down invading cartoon characters in a game of basketball - what more could any 90s kid ask for?

As the Nerdlucks first arrived, they essentially attacked NBA legends Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley, and Muggsy Bogues to steal their talent. This was followed by a hilarious montage of the basketball players testing their abilities, getting examined by doctors, speaking to therapists, and even trying to make a deal with God.

Of course, these men are athletes and not actors, but that didn't make the montage any less enjoyable, highlighted by the therapist's conversation with Patrick Ewing. It's a highlight going back and watching it now, but as a kid back in 1996, it would have been nothing but another conversation.

The doctor asked Ewing if there were any areas other than basketball where he found himself... unable to perform. Ewing's offended reaction makes a heck of a lot more sense now than it did back then.
