10 Movie References You Didn't Get As A Kid (But Do As An Adult)

5. Lightning McQueen Gets Flashed - Cars

Ratatouille Tiny Little
Pixar

There's no denying that Toy Story's Woody and Buzz Lightyear are at the top of the list when it comes to Pixar's most popular characters, but right there with them is Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson). The race car is one of Disney's most marketable characters, but he wouldn't be so popular if he had stayed as he was to begin with.

When first introduced during the opening scenes of Cars, McQueen was an arrogant newcomer to the sport, he was entitled and rude, and he cared about no one but himself and the perks of being a successful racer.

One of these perks was the love and adoration he received from his fans. He may not have been the nicest person, but crowds got behind him. They worshipped him, and none more so than Mia and Tia. It's only when going back and watching the film as an adult, however, that you realise just how far this adoration went.

The twins approached Lightning and flashed their lights before Owen Wilson's character quipped how much he loved his life. It would go over just about any kid's head that them flashing their lights is the equivalent of them flashing... something else.
