10 Movie Remakes Much Better Than The Original

7. The Fly (1986)

Some older sci-fi movies that may have been shocking and innovative for their time fail to hold up to the benefit of hindsight. Kurt Neumann's original version of The Fly is one such movie. Compared to David Cronenberg's gross-out special effects spectacle, Nuemann's version seems relatively quaint. But even setting aside the updated technology, the biggest thing the 1958 film lacked was Jeff Goldblum, whose creep-tastic performance kickstarted his career and cemented Cronenberg's eerie body-morphing spectacle as a hallmark of the horror genre. It also managed to become one of Cronenberg's better movies overall, which is a little ridiculous considering the number of critically-beloved classics he's put out.
