10 Movie Remakes Much Better Than The Original

3. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)

Well...can you ever go wrong pairing Steve Martin and Michael Caine together? (Even today that's a movie I'd pay to see in the theater. I wouldn't even need a premise.) The great thing about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is that it barely has to adjust the script of 1964's Bedtime Story to improve upon it. They simply swapped out Marlon Brando and David Niven with Martin and Caine, and let the two titans of film play off each other. The results are as hilarious as they are heartening, and it's a damn shame that these two didn't collaborated on more projects. Although Brando shines in the original (in one of his few intentionally funny roles) as a crudely charming con man with a propensity for scamming women, Martin thankfully lightens up on the blatant chauvinism and gives the character a little more boyishness. And Michael Caine is...well, he's Michael Caine, which is all he really needs to be.
