10 Movie Remakes Nobody Wanted (That Were Actually Pretty Good)

1. A Star Is Born (2018)

Dawn Of The Dead
Warner Bros.

Before 2018, there had already been three film adaptations of A Star is Born. The original in 1937 starring Janet Gaynor; a remake in 1954 starring Judy Garland; and again in 1976 with Barbara Streisand. So why would we need a fourth remake in 2018? The story works the exact same for each era, and each film still respectably holds up today.

Yet, 2018's A Star is Born is a masterpiece, and the definitive edition of this tired story. The film follows country rock superstar Jackson Maine who discovers a hidden singing talent in local girl Ally. The two fall in love while Ally comes to terms with being a global pop icon.

On his directorial debut, Bradley Cooper crafts this film to perfection while also starring as the troubled Jackson Maine. Lady Gaga, in her first leading role, gives a remarkable performance as Ally. Not only does the film display exceptional acting prowess, but the music is phenomenal.

The soundtrack, written by Lady Gaga and performed alongside Bradley Cooper, won both an Oscar and two Grammy awards. The film also went on to receive eight Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Acting for both leads.

A Star is Born proves the value in remaking old stories for an updated era. It is both emotional and musically entertaining while also showcasing true talent. When crafted with respect and perfection, remakes have the ability to become truly successful.
