10 Movie Remakes Nobody Wanted (That Were Actually Pretty Good)

2. Evil Dead (2013)

Dawn Of The Dead

The Evil Dead is one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time. Bruce Campbell's performances as Ash Williams have seen him reach legendary pop culture status, and the films are frequently included in various lists of the best horror films ever made.

So it's understandable why nobody wanted an Evil Dead remake. It was perceived to be a cash-grab attempt to attract a younger demographic to the cinema for cheap thrills.

However, the Evil Dead remake in 2013 is surprisingly pretty good. Despite a 64% critic review on Rotten Tomatoes, and only making $98 million at the worldwide box office, Evil Dead has amassed a respectable cult following, and can proudly stand as one of the best modern horror films.

The film follows a similar plot to the classic, as it sees a group of friends staying overnight in a cabin in the woods before reading from the Book of the Dead and unleashing evil demons. This remake does lack the witty, absurd humor of the '80s, but it does make up for it in excellent make-up effects.

Evil Dead is brutally violent, unnervingly creepy and includes plenty of blood and gore to satisfy any die-hard horror fan. It pays homage to the original in clever ways while also crafting its own badass imagery. Evil Dead truly deserves more credit than it gets.
