10 Movie Remakes You Didn't Know Were In The Works
7. Splash
The original: A light-hearted fantasy rom-com, notable for helping launch the careers of two major Hollywood players, leading man Tom Hanks and director Ron Howard. Hanks plays a New Yorker who, in his youth, had been saved from drowning by a young mermaid; years later, the now fully grown water nymph (Daryl Hannah) come to the city to find him, and romance ensues.
The remake: Back in August 2016, Disney first announced plans for a new take on Splash which would this time cast Jillian Bell as the lovestruck land-lubber and Channing Tatum as the smoking hot fantasy love interest fresh from the ocean.
Should We Be Excited?
The idea of Channing Tatum as a merman is certainly a novel one, and doubtless there'll be a sizeable audience for any new film which requires the Magic Mike heartthrob to once again spend a great deal of time with his shirt off.
Bell, meanwhile, has demonstrated her comedic prowess in the likes of 22 Jump Street, Rough Night and TV's Idiotsitter, so she's certainly ready to co-headline a film of her own.
At this point, however, there seems to be a bit of a question mark over Splash, as it's almost 2 years since it was announced, and there hasn't been much word on the matter since.
