10 Movie Remakes You Didn't Know Were In The Works
6. Highlander
The original: Director Russell Malachy's 1986 fantasy adventure cast Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior charged with battling the few remaining members of his mysterious superhuman race in modern day New York.
The remake: This is another one which has been stuck in development hell for well over a decade, with directors Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan attached at different points, and Ryan Reynolds at one time tipped to star. However, things seem to be finally hotting up since director Chad Stahelski signed onto the project in late 2016.
Should We Be Excited?
The original Highlander remains one of the best pulpy adventures of the 80s, with its lurid visuals, ridiculous accents, and rip-roaring soundtrack from rock legends Queen. However, the less said about the sequels and TV spin-off it inspired, the better.
Stahelski's work on the John Wick movies has clearly established he can give us a gripping, action-packed take on the material; and while news has been scarce on the project, it may well be the director's next after the in-production John Wick 3.
No word on lead casting, but Dave Bautista is said to be taking over from Clancy Brown as the villainous Kurgan, while it's been rumoured that Javier Bardem may be up for the supporting role of Ramirez - and it's fair to say he might make a slightly more convincing Spaniard than Sean Connery.
