10 Movie Reveals So Bad You Almost Walked Out
1. Weaponised Autism - The Predator
Shane Black's The Predator had serious potential to finally bring the series back to mainstream prominence in a major way, yet lost itself with an extremely ill-advised subplot revolving around... weaponised autism. Yup.
For most of the movie, the audience is under the impression that the Ultimate Predator is chasing down battle-hardened marine Quinn McKenna (Boyd Holbrook) in the hope of harvesting his DNA, but in the third act we learn that the Predator is actually seeking his autistic son Rory (Jacob Tremblay).
Evolutionary biologist Casey Brackett (Olivia Munn) then explains that the Predator believes that Rory's autism makes him the next step in the human evolutionary chain, and that by harvesting his DNA the Predator can become a stronger hunter.
It's truly one of those reveals that leaves you wondering how it passed through the hands of so many executives and creatives without challenge, in a $160 million blockbuster movie no less.
Needless to say, the revelation left most viewers - Predator fans and casuals alike - smacking their heads in incredulity, mesmerised that something so inane made its way into a Shane Black film.
