10 Movie Reveals So Bad You Almost Walked Out

7. Dom Betrayed His Family To Protect His OTHER Family - The Fate Of The Furious

The eighth Fast and the Furious movie marks the point at which the franchise's wheels began to come off - following Furious 7's affecting farewell to Paul Walker's Brian O'Conner, it was painfully clear the series had reached its natural end-point.

But The Fate of the Furious' big marketing hook was that Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) had turned against his family - a claim few viewers surely believed, and so it was simply a matter of waiting to see how Dom was being blackmailed by the villainous Cipher (Charlize Theron).

It's eventually revealed that Dom has been helping Cipher because she kidnapped his former lover Elena (Elsa Pataky), and to hammer the point home, Dom then learns that he has a son, fathered with Elena during the period where he believed Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) was dead.

It's at this point that The Fast and the Furious descended into groan-worthy soap opera territory - having Dom betray his family to protect his other family was lazy writing to the ends of self-parody.

Plus, it was all-too-predictable that Elena would soon enough be killed off, leaving Dom to raise his son with Letty while neatly disposing of the awkward love triangle between Dom, Letty, and Elena.
