10 Movie Roles Harrison Ford Turned Down

9. Jack Ryan (The Hunt For Red October)

1992 saw Harrison Ford play Jack Ryan in Phillip Noyce's Patriot Games, but the actor's time as the character could've started a couple of years earlier. Ford was originally offered the part of Jack Ryan for 1990's The Hunt for Red October, in which Ryan was depicted as a CIA analyst on the hunt for Sean Connery's titular Red October sub. At that point in time, the actor decided against taking the role, instead opting to star in Presumed Innocent rather than John McTiernan's political, action-driven thriller that focussed on USSR and US relations. Ford would eventually take on the Jack Ryan gig for Patriot Games and then reprise for role for 1994's Clear and Present Danger, bringing a stone-willed intensity to the character. In the meantime, after Ford had said "no, thanks" to the role in The Hunt for Red October, Alec Baldwin would step in and play Jack Ryan in McTiernan's film.
